Gnome Shell

Gnome shell provides 2 additional desktop enviroments which you can use on your ubuntu installation alongside unity, it can be installed from ubuntu software centre by searching for 'gnome shell' or from a terminal using 'sudo apt-get install gnome-shell'.

Once you have installed gnome shell you can access it by logging out,
then click the Ubuntu logo by your name and select 'gnome' or 'gnome classic' then log back in.

To return to Unity, log out, click the Ubuntu logo again, then select 'Unity' and log back in.
